Bio on David Blaine
David Blaine is a well-known name in the entertainment industry. He is one of the top performing magicians and endurance artists of modern times. He has even been likened to a modern Houdini. It is through his deep-seated love of magic that Blaine brings fascination and entertainment to audiences around the world. David Blaine was born on Brooklyn, New York on April 4, 1973. His interest in magic started at the age of 4 when he saw a street magician perform. He researched and studied magic throughout the years. His mother gave him great support during this time when he was just a budding magician. When he became a teenager, he became interested in performing and acting. He landed some work in commercials and on soap operas. He also started to attend celebrity parties where he would perform tricks. Soon people began to talk about his amazing skills. Blaine went on to start performing street magic and filming his acts. He made a tape and sent it to ABC. David Blaine: Street Magic and David Blaine: Magic Man both were produced in the late 1990s. David Blaine did his first stunt to promote David Blaine: Magic Man. He was buried alive for 7 days. This was just the starting point. Blaine has accomplished a range of other stunts since then that have helped to make him one of the best-known magicians in the world. In 2000, Blaine performed the stunt, Frozen in Time. He was incased in ice for about 62 hours. The next stunt, Vertigo, in 2002 involved 34 hours standing on a 90 feet high pillar in Bryant Park in New York. 2003 brought Above the Below where Blaine was sealed in a glass box for 44 days. In 2006, Blaine performed Drowned Alive and Gyroscope. In Drowned Alive, he was immersed in a water-filled sphere for 7 days. He attempted to break the world record for holding his breath under water without aid, but fell short during this stunt. In Gyrosphere, he was suspended in the air 40 feet above Times Square while spinning. This stunt ended with controversy as Blaine took breaks during the stunt to come down. Overall, David Blaine has had a very successful career. His career highlights include a Guinness World Record he received on The Oprah Winfrey Show for longest breath holding. The new record he set was 17 minutes and 4.4 seconds. There is no doubt that David Blaine has more in store for his fans. He will continue to practice magic for the rest of his life because it is his passion.
